Last spring Max* and his International Intern team took a one-week Launch Trip to a new city in the Middle East to find local Christian students who could build a spiritual movement at their university.
Max had heard that there were only 11 Christian students at one local university, and finding any of them seemed impossible. Then he met Kareef.*
Kareef was already known on campus as an outspoken Christian, so he was glad to meet Max. Kareef shared that it’s lonely to have so few Christians around and that he was becoming frustrated at the way his conversations with non-Christians had been going.
“I just want to show how Jesus is good,” Kareef explained. So Max invited Kareef to participate in the Key Volunteer Challenge.
In the Key Volunteer Challenge, students express their vision for their university and are encouraged to share the gospel and disciple others. Max challenged Kareef to write down specific names of students he would share the gospel with.
Kareef wrote three names!
Later that day Max and Kareef saw each other again. “What you shared with me today changed my life. You need to share this with my friend, Farid.*”
Max sat down with Farid, another one of the 11 Christians at the university, and went through the same Key Volunteer Challenge with him. At the end of the exercise, Farid wrote down the names of 10 people he wanted to tell about Jesus.
Max’s teammates were also able to meet and challenge other Christian students at the university. They have continued to coach the students long-distance and will visit them soon for training, encouragement and to search for more followers of Christ who can participate in the beginnings of this new spiritual movement.
