What is Cru?

Cru exists to journey together with every person toward a meaningful relationship with God and others.

How will my student benefit from Cru in High School?

Community
The high school culture is all about inclusion. Cru invites all students to their events, and offers those who want to get further involved the opportunity to deepen their faith, express their faith, and grow in leadership.

Caring adults
It’s been said that young people need five significant others in their lives on their way to being mature healthy adults.. That’s why we seek, at the first opportunity, to meet you, the parents or guardians of students involved. Together, we build a caring community around our young people.

Getaways
Several times a year, Cru offers experiences for students that go beyond the high school campus. We offer camp/retreat experiences twice a year, where students have a ton of fun, and also learn how to become a leader on their campus. We also offer global excursions for students ready to make their faith known to others in different countries.

Who is Melissa Connally?

Hi! My name is Melissa Connally. We have two boys, Matthew and Jeremiah. Matthew is a junior at Magnolia High School and Jeremiah is a 7th grader at Bear Branch Junior High.

When I graduated with an English degree from the University of Oklahoma, I moved to East Asia to teach English. While there I met my future husband, a University of Texas grad, on an airport bus in Hong Kong. I just didn’t know then that he would be my future husband! Matt went to seminary at Trinity in Deerfield, IL and I joined full-time staff with Cru. I served as campus staff at Rice University for two years and then made plans to move to East Asia for the rest of my life! I had lost touch with Matt but out of the blue he contacted me. Two years after studying the language full time in East Asia, Matt flew across the ocean and proposed to me.

We got married and moved to California and later New Jersey. Our boys grew up in Princeton, NJ and after seven years, we sensed that God was leading us back to East Asia. So we packed up our lives into 8 suitcases and moved back overseas. After some culture shock for the boys, we settled in and loved living and serving overseas. Matt was a founding elder of an amazing church that opened its doors to foreigners and locals. As our boys got older and we started looking ahead to college, we made a painful decision to move back to America. I think we are still adjusting now three years later!

Having boys in junior high and high school, God showed me the importance of ministry to these students at a critical time in their lives. I absolutely love getting to disciple students and send them off to college prayerfully prepared to grow independently.

Thanks for checking us out!

It’s always encouraging to know that there are others reinforcing the values that we have sought to instill. Our Cru ministries and events are designed to do just that.

Teenagers have plenty of questions about God, how to own their faith, and just about life in general. We are here to listen and walk with the students of our community, and help them to process life through the lens of Scripture. Our aim in doing so is that they are led to Jesus, and that they can help others find hope in Him as well.

So please, roam around the site and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
