His Hands and Feet

April 13, 2026

On 14 November 2025, 18 of us—two surgeons, one anaesthesiologist, one operating theatre nurse, five doctors, six dentists and three others— embarked on a medical mission trip to the Philippines. Together with our partners from Vision Help International Care Foundation (VHICF), a German humanitarian organisation, we conducted two-day clinics ministering to 829 patients. Our desire was to be God’s hands and feet to bring healing, comfort and pain relief to the underserved population in Manila and in doing so reflect Christ’s love. Over these two days, we conducted surgeries, medical and dental consultations, provided health education and shared Christ with many of the patients.

We witnessed a young woman regain her confidence again after the removal of facial lumps. Another patient was finally able to wear slippers again after removing a ganglion cyst. Many patients thanked us warmly as they left, smiling as they collected their medicines and small gifts. We also learnt that dental care is expensive in Manila, making it inaccessible for many. As a result, some had endured prolong pain from severe tooth decay, and we even met patients in their 40s who had only a few teeth remaining.

Due to work commitments and other responsibilities, it is not easy for healthcare professionals to take leave to serve on overseas missions. Yet there are many who have returned for multiple such trips.

“Far greater than these encounters, the interactions with the other volunteers and workers of VHICF are the main reason why I have kept going back for the same mission. The love and passion they have for the impoverished have convinced me that my contribution of two very small copper coins (Luke 21:1-4) will help build the Kingdom of God.” - Dr Foo Chek Siang, surgeon

The team is deeply thankful to God for the opportunity to be involved in the Great Commission in a way that integrates our professional skills and training. It is our prayer that each of our patients would one day become a disciple of Christ.

Since 2017, Cru Singapore’s Healthcare Ministry has sent multiple teams to serve in Manila in partnership with VHICF. Our next team leaves for Manila in April 2026. We also organise similar trips to other countries, including Nepal and Mongolia.
