Growing Together

One Season at a Time

September 14, 2026

More Than They Expected

When Solomon and Elizabeth joined the Art of Marriage course in May 2023, they simply wanted to invest in their marriage. They hoped to learn from couples who had journeyed ahead of them, pick up some helpful principles and head home.

God had something more in mind.

After the course, their small group formed in July 2023. At first, they were simply couples getting to know one another—polite, shy, and trying to remember each other’s names! Looking back, it’s amusing to see how far they’ve come.

Life has a way of drawing people closer. The group celebrated together when a group member’s son got married, travelled to Thailand in March 2024, and later served together on a mission trip in June 2025. Somewhere between the Bible studies, shared meals and countless conversations, they became friends who genuinely cared for one another.

Walking Through Life Together

Of course, life isn’t always easy. Some of them faced health concerns, family challenges and struggles within marriage. Those moments shaped them. Instead of offering quick fixes, they listened, prayed and supported one another. They realised this wasn’t just another discussion group—it had become a family.

Being part of this journey has also changed the way they view marriage. Sometimes it’s easy to wonder, “Are we the only ones who struggle with this?” Then someone shares their story, and suddenly they realise they’re all learning, growing and occasionally making the same mistakes! That perspective has helped them become more patient, appreciative of each other, and intentional about investing in their marriages.

Serene, a fellow group member, shared that one thing she treasures is the atmosphere of grace. There is no pressure or judgment when people share their stories; instead, there is acceptance, empathy and sincere encouragement. Her husband, Eythan, similarly reflected on how regular fellowship and shared experiences have built genuine friendships grounded in trust and mutual encouragement.

Still Growing, Together

Looking back, Solomon and Elizabeth are thankful that what began as a three-day marriage course became an ongoing journey of faith, friendship and growth. They are still learning to communicate better, still learning patience, and still making time for their “paktor with a purpose.”

They’ve learnt that a healthy marriage doesn’t grow by accident; it grows when couples intentionally invest in one another. As Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 reminds us, “Two are better than one... If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” They’ve experienced that not only in their own marriages, but also through this wonderful community of couples who continue to journey together, one season at a time.
