Christian Stories About Helping Others

Light to the Nations

"In the heart of Maguindanao, I conducted eye exams for local villagers. After each examination, I asked if they would like to be prayed for. Every single one said yes

—but not for themselves. They asked for the prosperity of their village, quality education for their children, and peace in their community. It was always about others. These villagers, despite having so little and living in difficult conditions, also gave their time to serve in various initiatives without expecting anything in return. Through this experience, I learned to take my eyes off myself and discovered the deep joy of truly serving and caring for others." Melvin, #GO participant to the Philippines

Melvin’s story is one of many experiences that emerged as 227 teams journeyed to 20 countries, impacting close to 7,000 lives for Christ in just 25 months—all under the banner of #GO, Cru Singapore’s missions thrust from December 2023 to December 2025. Sending has always been central to our mission: to reach, build, and send Christ-centred multiplying disciples. Over five decades, short-term mission trips have been a key avenue for discipleship and raising up lifelong workers for God’s harvest.

#GO was born from a desire to make disciples everywhere. As the world reopened post-pandemic, we ramped up our sending efforts—welcoming ministry disciples, churches, and those new to Cru to step into God’s mission at any age or stage of life. With a wide range of partnership locations and accessible entry points, even first-time participants found it easy to take that first step.

Most trips were led by Cru staff or returning participants, with some adopted by church groups. A particularly meaningful highlight was Families on Mission—where parents who had completed the Art of Parenting course could live out those lessons together with their children on the mission field.

#GO equipping workshops prepared everyday Christians with practical tools for cross-cultural ministry—locally and overseas—helping participants grow in cultural sensitivity, active listening, and sharing God’s love in ways that meet people’s deepest needs.

Not every journey was without challenges. While many teams celebrated transformed lives, others encountered difficulties along the way—moments that have spurred growth and sharpened how we equip future teams. Though #GO concluded as a formal project in 2025, we continue our sending under the same name—and the call to go remains, for every willing heart.
