Staying the Course

By the close of September 2020, I will have served 5200 days as Country Leader of Cru Singapore. This season of leadership has been humbling and an incredible privilege for me. I started out as a somewhat reluctant leader, but God has helped me to enjoy my role over time, while growing me through the challenges that came with it.

Through my leadership journey, I have found great encouragement and strength in Isaiah 58:11. “The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” This was my assurance from God that He will guide me, provide the resources that Cru needs and strengthen me to shepherd my flock.

In these unprecedented and challenging times, we must press on in the right direction in order to reach our destination. Staying the course requires us to remain faithful to our calling and mission. Cru Singapore’s core commitment to help fulfil the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) has not changed. Standing on our rich heritage of more than 48 years of ministry experience and growing partnerships, we continue to build upon the legacy forged by our predecessors to advance the Great Commission through reaching, building and sending in Singapore and beyond.

On 1 October 2020, I will hand over the baton to Goh Hock Chye, who will assume the role of Country Leader for Cru Singapore. Hock Chye was offered this role well before the Covid-19 pandemic in September 2019. God spoke very clearly to him then, as he prayed and sought His will for his life. Hock Chye obeyed God’s unmistakable call and stepped up in faith. Our God knows best what is required of the next leader of Cru, and He has prepared and raised an outstanding servant in Hock Chye. Together with his team, I am confident that Hock Chye will inject fresh ideas and the necessary changes in order for Cru to remain relevant and effective in a post Covid-19 world.

During this leadership transition, I seek your continued prayers and support for Hock Chye and team as he leads Cru in the new season. The role of Country Leader in a Christian non-profit organisation is extremely demanding and any success can only come about through the grace of God.

Thank you for your faithful partnership through your prayers and giving to the ministry of Cru under my watch. Your support and encouragement have strengthened me, and enabled Cru, to stay the course. I am also humbled that my personal devotional letters have ministered to many of you.

Finally, “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15:13 (NLT)
