Honouring the Elders

August 10, 2026

One of the most remarkable blessings God has bestowed on Cru Singapore is a privilege that few ministries can claim: all five of our former national directors are still actively serving among us. Their continued presence is more than a historical distinction—it is a living testimony to God's enduring faithfulness across generations.

The writer of Hebrews exhorts us, "Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith" (Hebrews 13:7, NIV). We are not simply called to remember what our leaders accomplished, but to observe how they lived and to imitate the faith that sustained them. Their greatest legacy is not the ministries they built, but the lives they continue to live faithfully before God.

In a culture that celebrates what is newest, fastest, and most innovative, God's kingdom calls us to honour those who have walked faithfully over the long journey. Our former national directors have carried the weight of leadership, navigated difficult decisions with courage, embraced change with wisdom, and remained steadfast in the calling God entrusted to them. Their lives remind us that lasting influence is forged not through momentary success, but through decades of quiet, faithful obedience.

One of the greatest privileges of my own journey has been spending intentional time with these leaders—over meals, in personal conversations, and in shared moments of reflection. These are not merely occasions to reminisce. They are opportunities to listen, to learn, to seek counsel, and to hear afresh the stories of God's faithfulness.

Without exception, I leave every conversation refreshed. Their love for Christ remains vibrant. Their passion for the mission has not dimmed. They remind me that while strategies may evolve, our calling remains unchanged—to make disciples everywhere.

May we never overlook the priceless treasure God has already placed among us. Let us honour our elders by listening to them, learning from their wisdom, seeking their counsel, and expressing our gratitude while we still have the privilege of walking alongside them. One day, today's leaders will become tomorrow's elders—and my prayer is that Cru Singapore will always be a community where every generation is valued and the baton is faithfully passed on.

When we honour those who have gone before us, we do more than celebrate their legacy. We honour the God who sustained them—and who will remain faithful for every generation to come.
