Divine Deliverance

Overcoming Infertility and Medical Crisis

Elizabeth April 19, 2024

I got married in 2004 while pursuing my Postgraduate degree in Chemistry in India. It was a part-time 2-year course comprising both theoretical studies and practical lab sessions. Concerned about the potential effects of chemicals on a baby, we made the decision not to conceive until I completed my studies, which concluded in 2006.

When we finally began trying for a baby in 2006, we encountered difficulties. My periods were irregular, causing emotional highs and lows. Fearing societal scrutiny, particularly in our Asian culture where women are often blamed for infertility, we sought medical advice. After numerous tests, which yielded normal results for me, the focus shifted to my husband's sperm count. On our second wedding anniversary, we received the devastating news of his low sperm count.

Despite the challenges, we kept our struggles private and sought solace in our faith. A television program featuring a Bible verse, "Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit," (Zechariah 4:6) provided a spiritual awakening for my husband. Encouraged, we embarked on a 7-day spiritual retreat, where divine revelations further strengthened our resolve.

During this retreat, I received a profound message about our decision to delay pregnancy without consulting God, prompting a humbling moment of repentance. Then, during a personal worship session, I witnessed a vision of a baby's face, a sign of hope that I shared with my husband. He, too, experienced a dream affirming our faith in God's plan for us.

Filled with renewed hope, we returned home, and in the following month, I discovered I was pregnant without medical intervention. We were blessed with a healthy baby girl the following year.

However, our joy was soon overshadowed by unforeseen challenges. Shortly after my daughter's birth, she was diagnosed with midgut volvulus, necessitating emergency surgery. As I grappled with the emotional toll of her condition, compounded by my recent C-section, I leaned on prayer for strength and guidance. With the support of medical professionals and unwavering faith, my daughter underwent successful surgery and recovered without complications.

Reflecting on those turbulent days, I am grateful for God's unwavering presence and provision. My daughter just celebrated her 17th birthday, a testament to His faithfulness and mercy. Through my story, I hope to offer comfort and encouragement to others facing adversity, knowing that God is the ultimate source of compassion and comfort in times of trouble.
