How We Appear to God

Bill Bright

“Seek the LORD while you can find Him. Call on Him now while He is near” (Isaiah 55:6).

One day a preschooler was riding his tricycle when his attention was captured by a line of ants crossing the driveway. He stopped his trike, and knelt down to peer at the busy ants. After some time, he had a terrible thought. His daddy would be coming home soon and would park right on top of the ant line!

The little boy decided to do something, so he shouted at the ants, but they paid no attention. Then he grabbed a big leaf and tried to herd them in another direction, but they just scurried around and re-formed their doomed line. After puzzling over the insolvable problem the boy eventually lost interest and wandered off to play with his toys.

Have you ever wondered what God sees when He looks down on us? There we are, billions of humans scurrying here and there, so caught up in our personal plans that we rarely look up. And if we do, how will we actually see God as He is?

Is it possible for a mere human, less than a tiny speck on a pebble of a planet in the midst of a vast galaxy, to know the great God who created everything? If so, can we really know God well enough to trust Him with the most sensitive areas of our lives?

This is why the infinite God took on human form in the person of Jesus. He reached out to us in a way that we could grasp, because He desired to be known by us. He is not an impersonal life force that cannot feel our pain. Rather, He is a personal spirit who wants an intimate relationship with us.

Your View of God Really Matters ...

Ask yourself the following questions: Do I know God, or do I just know about God? Do I actually relate to Him as I would a person, or does He seem very distant? If your answers are less than you wish, keep searching and seeking – you will discover Him.

Because God is a personal Spirit,
I will seek intimate fellowship with Him.
