Passing the Baton

Richard Hoon to Dr Tan Hai Meng

January 22, 2026

On 29 November 2025, a significant leadership transition took place at Cru Asia Limited's Annual General Meeting, as Richard Hoon passed the baton of board leadership to Dr Tan Hai Meng.

Richard's journey with Cru Singapore spans five decades, beginning during his student days at Singapore Polytechnic when he came to faith through the ministry's outreach. He joined the board of Cru Asia Limited in 2014 and served as Chairman from 2016 to November 2025, bringing nearly a decade of dedicated leadership to the organisation.

During his tenure as Chairman, Richard's leadership proved instrumental in strengthening the board's effectiveness and governance. He brought clarity of vision and cultivated a robust culture of sound governance practices. His commitment to succession planning was evident in his thoughtful approach to board renewal, recruiting godly and servant-hearted leaders who shared Cru Singapore's mission and values. Through prayerful deliberation and careful planning, he also led his own leadership transition, ensuring continuity and stability for the organisation.

Country Leader Goh Hock Chye, who has worked closely with Richard over the years, speaks warmly of his leadership style. "Richard leads with grace and wisdom, and he cares deeply for the welfare of the staff. His personable approach makes you feel valued and important," Hock Chye reflects, adding that Richard has been both a mentor and a friend to him.

Dr Tan Hai Meng, who has served as Vice-Chair since 2024, brings extensive corporate leadership experience and a heart for missions to his new role. When approached to assume the chairmanship, he spent considerable time in prayer, seeking divine direction and confirmation. Hai Meng became convinced that God was calling him to steward this season of his life for Kingdom purposes. His vision is to build upon the strong foundation laid by his predecessor, further strengthening board leadership so that Cru Singapore's ministries can continue to flourish and bear lasting fruit.

We extend our deep gratitude to Richard and all Board members of Cru Asia Limited for their invaluable service. These leaders serve without remuneration, motivated purely by their calling and love for God.
