A Miraculous Week at MSU

A Miraculous Week at MSU

* Name changed for privacy.

In the span of one week, Cru® staff member Becca Abatie saw three women accept the message of Jesus at Michigan State University. The first in a string of miracles was when Becca and a student leader met with Josephine* after she attended a Cru weekly meeting for the first time.

As Josephine shared her story with them, it became clear that the Lord had pursued her. God used a frightening car accident, an offhanded comment from a family member, and a persistent curiosity about Jesus to draw Josephine to that weekly meeting. There, she heard the gospel clearly for the first time. Becca and the student leader shared the good news with Josephine again using Cru’s Knowing God Personally booklet, read over the prayer to accept Christ at the end, and asked her, “Does this prayer express the desire of your heart?”

"Josephine paused to think, and then nodded tearfully at us, overcome by the offer of salvation by grace through faith,” Becca said. “That day, in the Holmes Hall cafeteria, she trusted in Jesus and received eternal life!”

The next day, Becca had a similar meeting with a girl named Abby*, accompanied by a student leader named Julibel. They listened to Abby’s story of a life spent knowing about Jesus but never really knowing Him personally. When Becca and Julibel invited Abby to surrender her life to Jesus, she accepted!

Immediately after, as the three of them piled into Becca’s car to help Abby get to her next class on time, Becca saw Abby smile in the backseat.

“I think something just changed,” Abby said.

After dropping her off, Julibel and Becca sat in the car for the next half hour, thanking God for another new sister in Christ and talking through how to use Cru’s evangelism tools to have gospel conversations more often.

After seeing Abby accept Christ the day before, Julibel met up with a high school friend who had expressed curiosity about Cru. Using the same tool she and Becca had talked about the previous day, Julibel shared the gospel with Janelle, and she also prayed to receive Christ!

“That week showed me what I know to be true: God has long been after the hearts of these college students, and He is making Himself known at MSU,” Becca said. “What a privilege it is to be a part of their spiritual journeys and new lives in Christ!”
