Unto®’s Ministry to the Brokenhearted

Around the world, suffering people have little access to personal ministry care. Those facing trauma, persecution, disaster, war and other crises need help processing what they have endured.

The new Ministry to the Brokenhearted training from Cru®’s humanitarian aid ministry, Unto®, equips local staff teams in the toughest places to provide emotional care to those who are hurting, based on 2 Corinthians 1:4 (New Living Translation): “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.”

The three-day training encourages staff to address their own “heart wounds” and equips them with strategies like the ministry of presence to bring to others the healing and hope found in Jesus. It transforms the way staff do ministry — once they themselves experience healing, they can give more connected and compassionate care to those who need it.

Recently, the Ministry to the Brokenhearted team hosted a training for staff and church planters in a closed Southeast Asian country.

After completing this training, staff member Ren*and his wife visited a family grieving the loss of a granddaughter. Using the tools learned through their training, they were able to be fully present, simply listening to the family as they expressed their grief.

Because of the comfort they received, the family invited Ren and his wife to stay and share a meal with them — a meal the family hadn’t planned on eating because of their sorrow, now restored because of the comfort and healing they experienced.

In closed countries like this one, the ministry of presence and emotional care provides a unique opportunity to support the hurting, enabling staff to build relationships that point people to Jesus, the One who heals the brokenhearted.

This year, Unto plans to provide Ministry to the Brokenhearted training to staff teams in four countries. In each location, people have endured the effects of war, disaster and persecution. Every country where the team will serve is closed to the message of Jesus.

Please ask God to mightily work through these opportunities, and prayerfully consider a generous gift today to support the Ministry to the Brokenhearted, and help those who are hurting find hope and healing in Jesus.
