Athletes in Action® Impact Stories

Multiplying Disciples at the University of Tennessee

The Cru® movement at the University of Tennessee is believing God to raise up 1,000 multiplying disciples over three years. This summer, two UT athletes who are on the spirit squad attended Athletes in Action®’s The Ultimate Training Camp®, where college athletes learn to integrate God, life, and sport. Gabriel is a Smokey (the UT mascot) at sports events and Keegan is a cheerleader. Both came back from camp ready to reach out to teammates. Gabriel, a senior, is mentoring some of the other guys and wanting to reach out to the other Smokies, while Keegan wants to do the same with the cheer team. Together, with another teammate, they started a combined spirit squad Bible study this fall. Gabe is also meeting with one of the younger Smokies who is new to the team. It’s been really exciting to see those guys sharing their faith and reaching out to their teams.

Ivy Grows at Dayton

When Ivy transferred to the University of Dayton her junior year, she wasn’t just looking for a new team — she was praying for mentors, community, and a space to grow in her faith. God answered in a big way. “I knew the basic gospel and the foundational stuff — but I didn’t know how to read my Bible or how great God truly is. It’s been life-changing for me to turn to the Word.” Through her time with Athletes in Action®, Ivy found peace of mind and mental strength — as a woman, an athlete and a follower of Jesus. Her ability to trust God through the highs and lows has deepened, becoming a true testament to His faithfulness. She didn’t grow alone. Ivy invited others in — and eight of her teammates (including transfers and freshmen!) got involved in community and Bible study together. Ivy’s leadership and love for her team have left a lasting impact

Since 1951, Cru has helped individuals who grapple with integrating faith into daily life by offering practical steps and community support. As a result, countless people in over 190 countries have been empowered to move from passive belief to active faith.
