An Invitation That Changed Everything
Shawn (pictured bottom right in the red, hooded sweatshirt and black cap) grew up going to church occasionally, but never felt anything had deeply impacted his life. As a freshman at Harris-Stowe State University, a historically Black school in St. Louis, Missouri, he was invited to the Cru® Bible study on campus.
This was not something Shawn would have normally attended, but he decided to go.
Before Shawn could slip out the door after that first Bible study, two Cru student leaders struck up a conversation with him. They encouraged him to come back one more time the following week.
And he did.
“Almost two years later, I’m still here,” he told a room full of ministry donors at a 2025 spring gathering. During those semesters, Shawn had gone to Cru ministry events like Fall Getaway, New Orleans Spring Break, and Winter Conference, which helped him mature spiritually.
It was at the Winter Conference that Shawn took some significant steps of growth in his walk with the Lord. He started reading the Bible on his own. He proudly shared with the ministry partners that he read the Scriptures every day for five months.
Shawn closed by saying, “I want to thank you for what your giving has meant for me. It has made it possible for me to experience new things and grow in my walk with Christ.”
