Passages - Week 4: The Mentor

Get Ready

Day 6

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”2 Timothy 3:16-17

Mentoring others on their spiritual journey can be a challenge. But God has provided the means of preparation. It is all found in his Word. In this passage, Paul reveals the pathway of preparation. He states, “The man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” How? It is the product of being transformed by God’s Word.

God’s Word instructs us in all we need to know and understand about following Christ. It shows us where we are falling short, rebuking us with love. It helps us get back on track, correcting us from our wandering ways. And finally it trains us in how to live rightly. As we are experiencing the impact of the Word in our lives, we are being equipped to help others as well.

Thought

You only need to be one step ahead to help someone following behind.

Take a Step

Identify 5-10 concepts (w/ scripture references) that new believers need to understand.

Work with another believer to identify five to ten basic concepts a new believer needs to understand, or experience, and a key scripture for each one. Write the topics and references on notes page in your Bible.

Bonus

The law of the Lord is perfect,
    reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
    making wise the simple;
the precepts of the Lord are right,
    rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
    enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the Lord is clean,
    enduring forever;
the rules of the Lord are true,
    and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold,
    even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey
    and drippings of the honeycomb.
Moreover, by them is your servant warned;
    in keeping them there is great reward.

Who can discern his errors?
    Declare me innocent from hidden faults.
Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins;
    let them not have dominion over me!
Then I shall be blameless,
    and innocent of great transgression.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
    be acceptable in your sight,
    O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
