Passages - Week 2: The Guide

Open Doors

Day 1

“And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.”Colossians 4:3

Do you ever wonder why you don’t have more opportunities to engage in significant spiritual conversations? Maybe it's because you have forgotten to knock. It begins with prayer. God opens the door of opportunity for you to enter into other people’s spiritual journeys. Unless God in His grace is at work in that person’s life, the door of the heart will remain closed.

The apostle Paul understood this. He prayed and enlisted others to pray that God would open doors for his message. God did so in many cities, such as Troas (2 Corinthians 2:12), and with many individuals, such as Lydia (Acts 16:14).

The more we pray for open doors, the more opportunities we can expect. And nothing is more exciting than to enter into the life journey of a friend or acquaintance when God has been at work opening the door and preparing the heart.

Thought

Open doors are the product of answered prayers.

Take a Step

Pray for God to open conversational doors this week so that you can enter into spiritual journeys and guide others to Christ.

Bonus

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God's will I may now at last succeed in coming to you. For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine. I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles. I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
