London is the most popular place in the world to study abroad. This city of amazing cultural history and influence is home to 400,000 students, 100,000 of them from other nations.
Many Americans studying in the United Kingdom spend their free time traveling and hanging out with other Americans. However, if you come to study in the UK with a missional mindset, you will have a great opportunity to influence local students with the gospel.
Studying abroad in London with Cru, you will be a part of a team studying at a university and living life on mission. You will have the opportunity to strike up spiritual conversations with future world leaders in politics, sciences, arts, and religion. Imagine living and studying in one of the coolest cities in the world and leaving an eternal legacy behind at the same time. If that sounds exciting to you, join us in building transformational student communities in one of the world’s most influential cities.
There are options! Currently, the two campuses with Cru movements are London School of Economics and King’s College. Both are in Central London and within a 15 minutes’ walk of each other.
The Cru staff members in London are trusting God to raise up a movement of student-led outreach and discipleship on every campus in the city. If it would be a better fit for you to study at another university in London, you can still be a part of Cru Study Abroad in London! In fact, you could be a key person to open the door for launching a movement on a campus in London where one currently doesn’t exist. Priority campuses in London are: SOAS University of London, University of Greenwich, University of East London and Middlesex University London.
These universities offer a wide variety of programs for coursework that will count toward most degrees. The study abroad office on your campus can help you select the courses you need for your degree requirements. It will be similar to a normal course load (about 16 credit hours) you would have in the United States.
Fall terms at most London universities typically run mid-September through mid-December, and spring terms early January through early June. You’ll need to check with each prospective university for exact dates.
A typical week in London would look pretty similar to being a Cru student leader back home. The minimum time commitment will be about four hours a week, which includes scheduled discipleship and evangelism time. Beyond that, you’re encouraged to be intentional in making friends on campus and reaching out to them with the gospel. A weekly schedule of involvement will be discussed early on in the semester in light of your academic obligations.
Ideally you’ll live on the campus where you study. If on-campus housing is not available, London offers many housing options for international students. Your study abroad agency or study abroad office on your campus can help you to obtain housing.
Although they speak British English in London, and you may be made fun of for your American accent, you’ll be able to understand each other just fine.
The cost of tuition and fees varies by campus and by university you currently attend. If your university has a direct exchange with a London school, the tuition will be similar to what you are currently paying. Check with your school’s study abroad department for pricing.
