Cru/Campus Crusade for Christ Int’l President to Step Down in July 2024

“It has been my great privilege to serve as the steward of this global movement. I have had the joy of linking arms with our staff around the world to be a part of helping to fulfill God's calling for our movement. I have great confidence in the leaders God has within our ministry to continue the work of evangelism and discipleship.” –Steve Sellers, Jan. 16, 2024

ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 16, 2024—Steve Sellers announced plans to step aside from his role as president of Cru/Campus Crusade for Christ International in July 2024.

“In 2020, when our Board of Directors asked me to consider the presidential role, I told the Board of Directors that I was willing to step into the role, but sensed from the Lord that it would only be for a brief season,” said Sellers. “As I’ve prayed and continued to surrender to God’s will, I believe it is now time for someone new to lead this great, global movement of God. I will remain fully committed to our calling and will continue to serve on staff alongside my co-workers from around the world.”

Cru’s Board of Directors has initiated a succession process that is expected to be completed this summer. Sellers will remain active in his current role until that time.

“The Board of Directors is grateful for Steve’s service,” said Barry Cannada, chairman of Cru’s Board of Directors. “He has modeled a life of surrender to Christ and has focused the staff on loving Jesus. We want to express our earnest appreciation for all the ways Steve has served.”

Sellers has served in various leadership roles since joining the ministry in 1976. Under his presidency the Global Executive Team became more globally diverse with increased collaboration among the national ministries.

“It has been one of my greatest joys in life to witness our staff members around the world win, build, and send in the power of the Holy Spirit and help the body of Christ do evangelism and discipleship. I remain fully committed to this calling. I look forward to seeing how God will continue to fulfill the vision of Revelation 7:9 — filling His throne room with people from every nation, tribe, and tongue,” said Sellers.

“We have one mission. Our calling as a movement is to help fulfill the Great Commission by winning, building, and sending in the power of the Holy Spirit and helping the body of Christ do evangelism and discipleship. Our passion is to help fulfill the Great Commission in this and every generation until our Lord returns (Matt. 28:18-20). Pray that the Lord will lead us to the right person that He has prepared to lead us in this collective focus,” said Cannada.
