I struggle. I struggle to find my place in a crowded room. I struggle to find my voice in a conversation. Maybe that’s why I love writing. My words aren’t competing on the page.
My first panic attack occurred shortly after a personal life-changing event in college. I was struggling with self-worth. I was never good enough, skinny enough, pretty enough.
No matter how hard I tried, I was never enough. I was broken. I felt what happened was my fault, and in that guilt, I lost my sense of value.
Those feelings clung to me and influenced my every day. But they were feelings — not the truth. The truth is I am highly valued. God has not forgotten me.
“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Luke 12:6-7 (New International Version).
God has written your story. You were beautifully and wonderfully made. There is pain in your story, but even the pain of a broken family, unmet expectations, sickness, injustice or trauma can be redeemed.
All of us need help. We are all broken in one way or another.
When Jesus came to earth, He chose to live among us, to feel pain, to experience sadness and grief, and to die.
But friend, Jesus defeated death. On the cross, He proclaimed, “It is finished.” He paid the cost for the brokenness in the world. He fixed what was broken.
To be whole, you must be rooted in the truth of who Jesus is and what He has done for you. In Christ, you are more than enough.
Even though I struggle with anxiety, I know my story matters. God can redeem my story and use my words to help others.
