One that Rebuilds Community

On June 8, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck the province of Sarangani. Many people were left in shock and despair as they survived the catastrophe that befell them. Despite this hard situation, hope can still be found in God. He sees and hears the cries of His people and wants them to find refuge under His wings.

Global Aid Network Philippines Inc. (GAIN) had the burden of reaching out and extending God's hand to the people affected by the earthquake. A team and some members of GAIN International visited the city of General Santos and other affected areas to coordinate with LGUs and DSWD offices. Because of God’s wisdom and guidance, they were also able to assess their most urgent needs and evaluate safety measures during their time in Sarangani. In addition, they were able to distribute the initial relief supplies to the affected families, showing that God is a provider to all

However, they know that all these supplies are temporary. We don’t want a band-aid solution when it comes to trials, but an aid that can rebuild families and communities and will last for a very long time. These people are hurt, devastated, and left in shock. Traumas crept inside their minds, and fear surged in their hearts. This is why GAIN aims to have a sustainable rebuilding of the community. To reconstruct their homes while also bringing back the lives of the people. Additionally, they plan to introduce livelihood programs where families can work again and provide for themselves, just as they did before the earthquake.

This won’t be possible without people coming together for them. We pray that God will continue to call for volunteers and partners to make this rebuilding happen.
