Sydney is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Its natural harbour and stunning beaches make it a popular destination for tourists. At the same time, Sydney is home to world-class universities that attract tens of thousands of students from Asia and around the globe. While many study abroad students make the highlight of their time in Australia traveling to Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef, we are looking for American students who will come with a missional mindset.

You could be part of a team at one of two universities in Sydney. This team will live, study and minister alongside a community of missionally-minded students and local ministry staff. You will have time to be a tourist, but we want the most memorable part of your time in Australia to be making an eternal difference in the life of a fellow student.

YOU MAY BE WONDERING…

Where can I study?

The University of Sydney and Macquarie University.

We are forming a team to work alongside the Cru (called ‘Student Life’ in Australia) team in Sydney. These campuses are strategic for reaching the city. They have lots of international students - including many Americans. And they both have small Cru/Student Life ministries that are seeing students come to Christ regularly.

What types of classes can I take?

These universities offer a wide variety of programs for coursework that will count towards most students’ degrees. The study abroad office on your campus can help you select the courses you need for your degree requirements. Your course load will be similar to a normal load (about 16 credit hours) of classes you would have in the States.

When can I go?

Contact us for dates of future semesters.

Keep in mind that semesters are flipped in Australia. The fall semester in America equals the Australian spring semester.

What kind of ministry will I be doing?

A typical week in Sydney would look pretty similar to being a Cru student leader back home. There will be a weekly schedule of small groups, weekly meeting, community building events and evangelism. Australian campuses are commuter campuses so most of the day-to-day ministry happens between 9am and 5pm.

You will be actively involved in ministry activities and sharing your faith throughout the week. Additionally, you will receive ministry training and personal development and you will help lead various aspects within the team. Expect about 10-15 hours/week of involvement worked around your classwork. But don’t worry, you will still have plenty of time to rest, engage with the culture and explore this beautiful city!

Where will I live?

The universities in Sydney both have accommodations near campus dedicated for use by students studying abroad. You will live off campus in apartment-style housing relatively close to your university.

Will there be a language barrier?

No! Sydney is incredibly multi-cultural, with many migrants from Asia, the Middle East and Europe. But English is the official language.

How much does this cost?

The cost of tuition and fees varies by each campus and by the university you currently attend. If your university has a direct exchange with one of these Sydney campuses, the tuition will be similar to what you are currently paying. Check with your school’s study abroad department for pricing, they will be helpful in the process.

When is the application deadline?
