Catholicism is by far the largest religious influence in the country. Evangelicals represented 25 percent of the population, but less than 8 percent today. The term 'born-again' and 'evangelical' tend to carry negative weight, and there is a gap in the public perception of 'spirituality' as opposed to 'religion.'
