“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33
Since Enkhtaivan Enkhsumya, who goes simply by Sumya, accepted Christ as a cadet he has followed God’s leading to help share the gospel with military members in Mongolia.
“My passion is to share God’s love, His truth, with military people,” the 29-year-old said. “My passion came because my grandparents and some of my relatives are in the military and I graduated with a degree in National Defense.”
In 2009, Sumya graduated from college and had a decision to make. He could choose to go into full-time ministry or commit to working in the military full time.
“I felt God’s calling to serve,” Sumya said. “I have seen Mongolian people arrested, living in prison. They don’t know the truth, they don’t know the purpose of life. They were like sheep without a shepherd.”
Sumya began to cry out to God that his people would know Jesus Christ. He began to pray about what he could do. That’s when he heard God’s clear calling to serve.
“The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.” Isaiah 61:1
He decided not to serve in the Army and now serves as the leader of the military ministry in Mongolia.
“Transforming someone’s life when they make the decision to following God’s way gives me joy,” Sumya said. “That joy always confirms my calling.”
Sumya’s first disciple was his first lieutenant. He was a first-year cadet and Sumya shared the Four Spiritual Laws with him. After that conversation, the first lieutenant accepted Christ.
“He was totally changed,” Sumya said of the then-shy cadet who had been a victim of bullying. “He realized his position in God. He is a kingdom leader with joy and passion. He is a very strong, bold military man for the Lord now.”
Sumya’s influence has not just been within Mongolia. His disciples have been able to influence military efforts in bases all over the world. There are members who are cadets, young officers, senior officers, generals and members of the NGO.
“The spirit-filled life is most critical,” Sumya said. “This is God’s ministry. It must be from God’s unconditional love. We must surrender daily and serve with His spirit.”
