The Value of the Truth

Summer in the City studentsLast year, Nick spent his summer break in Milwaukee with the Cru® Summer in the City® short-term mission project. He was a college student from University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Nick came to Milwaukee to learn and grow with a team of other students. The project's aim was to help reach the inner city for Jesus.

Throughout the summer, the Milwaukee hosts a variety of festivals. These special events offered many opportunities to share the gospel. Nick's team often headed to the festivals to strike up gospel conversations. One day Nick paired up with a project leader named Aaron. Together they walked up to a middle-aged man who introduced himself as Larry. Nick felt the Holy Spirit prompting the conversation right away!

Larry began to explain to Nick and Aaron that he grew up in a church, but he thought he could only be saved through works. As their conversation continued, Nick could see that Larry was tired of striving to do "the right thing." Nick and Aaron asked Larry if they could share a booklet with him, called Knowing God Personally. They read through the book with him. Their conversation lasted for nearly two hours! Larry was full of spiritual curiosity, clearly eager to better understand what Jesus did.

At the end of their time together, Nick gave Larry the booklet. Larry commented that their conversation and that book were worth thousands of dollars! Nick was encouraged to see that Larry was in awe of the message of the gospel. Conversations like this one often draw people to Jesus and increase the faith of the students on projects!

Thank you for your prayers as more students begin their time with us for Summer in the City in several cities across the country this month. May God open more hearts and eyes to the hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ!
