Nations and Generations Documentary

Buddy and Maimai Tendero

Cru Philippines and Plus Media produced the “Nations and Generations” documentary, which aimed to answer the question, “How has the Lord used Cru Philippines in reaching nations and generations over the past sixty years?”

As we researched, key milestones emerged - more than events or programs, these are components that have shaped Cru to this day. Through interviews with those who were part of these events, we can hear their stories and pass them on to the next generation.

So, in what ways have we helped reach nations and generations?

First, in training new missionaries of Cru. The Great Commission Training Center (GCTC) was established in the Philippines by US Cru staff members Kent and Diane Hutchison. GCTC became the curriculum for training Cru staff, and key staff from other countries would be sent here for training. GCTC in Manila became both the origin and the nurturing ground for the growth of GCTCs in various countries, including South Korea, Vietnam, Macau, Hong Kong, and Malaysia, among others.

Next, Explo 85, a massive worldwide training event for discipleship and leadership, was broadcast via satellite. People came to Manila from Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao to receive training.

New Life 2000 was another event highlighted. This was intentional for training churches to provide equipping and workforce to help them reach their target areas in Metro Manila.

International Graduate School of Leadership (IGSL) is also one way the Philippines has helped reach nations and generations. IGSL develops not only the head, but also the heart and the hands, and has had students from over 40 countries. IGSL also equips wives of pastors through the Partners in Ministry program.

Lastly, Operation Jabez (OJ). OJ began in 1980, and at that time, disciples would stop out for six months to a year to do missions in a rural area. It is inspiring to hear how being part of OJ emphasises the importance of living a missional life.

These and more are the legacy we carry. Our prayer is that we remain steadfast, continuing the work entrusted to us as we do our part in helping fulfillll the Great Commission.
