We can help you prepare to engage globally.

Mindset is everything in global missions. As in other parts of life, the same action can have vastly different results depending on your mindset as you do it.

God is on the move around the world today in powerful ways. But, most of what He is doing is not flowing through the Western church. As Adrian de Visser, a Sri Lankan pastor and Vice President of Asian Access, said, “God has blessed you [the Western church]…to be a blessing to the nations. I want to celebrate what God has done in you and through you. But now, I also believe that it’s a new era. I wouldn’t want the church in the West to be left out of what is happening today.”

How do we engage globally in a way that brings us into what God is doing around the world? How do we develop the right mindset?

Here are a few accessible resources that we think will be very helpful for you.

Listen.

The Mission Shift Podcast was produced specifically to help those of us in the West glimpse what God has accomplished around the world, hear a new invitation from our brothers and sisters in the Global South, and engage in new ways over the course of eight episodes. We strongly encourage you to start at the beginning and work your way through.

Study.

If you want to grow in your understanding and passion to participate in what God is doing around the world, working through Your Part in God’s Plan: 40 Days from Genesis to Revelation is a great way to get started. Grab a friend and, together, discover God’s plan and your place in it.

Read.

Perhaps you have read articles questioning short term missions. Or you’re aware of the ties between colonialism and mission activity. Or you just want to make sure that you’re helping rather than hurting as you engage globally. When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor…and Yourself and Western Christians in Global Mission: What’s the Role of the North American Church? are two great books to read as you think through those concerns.
