When Lauren graduated from Purdue, she quickly connected with several other recent graduates who were following God into the workplace in Indianapolis. This group met regularly and was an incredible blessing to her. They encouraged her to be intentional with her relationships with those who were not yet believers and to find a good church home where she could grow and serve.
Lauren currently works for a pharmaceutical company where she is building purposeful relationships that are leading to Gospel conversations. She says, “When I take the time to intentionally pray for people, the Spirit provides time in my schedule to spend time with people at work. It’s special and rare to have an hour to sit and talk with co-workers.” As Lauren uses her time at work wisely, the Lord blesses her relationships.
Kristi has become one of Lauren’s close friends from work. The two got to know one another over lunches and they quickly connected over things they had in common. Lauren and Kristi are also both newlyweds and have been able to discuss their marriages. Their commonalities have helped them develop a friendship and as they have grown in trust, their conversations have also grown in depth. Early in the friendship, Kristi shared with Lauren about her sister’s death when she was a teenager. Kristi professes faith in Christ, but the death of her sister has had a profound effect on her life and view of God. Lauren has looked for ways to show Kristi the love of Jesus. When the anniversary date of her death came around, Lauren stopped by Kristi’s desk to tell her she was praying for her and her family. This act of love opened the floodgates to conversations about God.
Lauren’s marriage has also been a wonderful witness. While they are both newlyweds, Kristi has commented that their marriages look different. Lauren and her husband seek to honor Christ in all they do, especially in their marriage, and Kristi wants a marriage based on those principles. Over time, Kristi’s desire to deepen her faith has grown and now the two meet on a regular basis to study the Bible in a discipleship relationship. She is learning a lot but is often challenged by her husband who grew up Jehovah’s Witness and has differing views about Christ. His religious background presents a challenge but also the opportunity for Lauren and her husband to minister to them together. Through it all, Kristi is growing deeper in her relationship with Christ because of her friendship with Lauren.
