Stalking the Evang-experts: What Would Strobel Do?

What if I could grab coffee with Lee Strobel?  What would I ask him that might help me in reaching non-Christians?  Hey, what if I recorded his ideas on my i-phone and posted them up on the web? More broadly, why do so few of us share our faith, anyway?  What’s holding us back?  How could we address that?

You just grasped the inspiration behind  OverflowToday .  Short, 3-minute video soundbites from top evangelism minds, served up hot and fast for people like me who need tips.  (Oh, and who need heart re-orientation.)

We stalk these guys, then interview them.  For the viewer, it’s sort of like grabbing a 3-minute video coffee chat with guys like:

-Doug Pollock or John Burke discussing unique ways to love on and serve non-Christians.
-Josh McDowell or Tim Muehlhoff on how to answer today’s defeater beliefs like “Jesus was a great moral teacher but that’s all” or “All religions are just different paths up the same mountain.”
-PhD. Science/math wonks like Stephen Meyer or William Dembski explaining how science is confirming scripture.
-Or, all this fall, a video line-up of Cru authors like Matt Mikalatos, Rick James, Randy Newman, Tim Downs, and Alan Scholes.  We’ll throw in pro-surfer Bryan Jennings as well.

How can you apply OverflowToday to your ministry?  View a 3-minute video podcast during your weekly large group meeting.  Or, just before your leadership meeting to set the pitch of your meeting to the key of E.  Perhaps try what UC-Irvine CRU did last year:  Have all your small groups discuss a different show each week throughout the semester.  Speaking of which, each video podcast has a downloadable small group discussion guide that, with zero prep time, can facilitate a 10-45 minute discussion.

For a quick  sample , here’s a 3-minute video + small group guide of Josh showing us how to utilize Lord, Liar, Lunatic.

Here’s a fun success story from UC-Davis staff Samantha:

“Amanda is a sophomore who just accepted Christ last fall. In the spring we went through your OverflowToday evangelism shows together each week, and it helped her a lot in her spiritual conversations—even with her parents! Here she is on Tuesday, meeting up with freshmen Marissa and Lexi at our campus student union to listen to Overflow podcasts together and leading them in discussion and application! About a week after I snapped this picture, Marissa excitedly told me that she shared the gospel with her roommate! Hope this image blesses you! —Samantha”

We were blessed to see how a new believer like Marissa was able to inspire and train others in evangelism using OverflowToday.  Hopefully OverflowToday.com will be helpful to you.
