Fall retreats are over. Or just about over. Now that this first cycle of the movement year is over perhaps you’ll be able to make time to breathe, reconnect with your family and friends, and possibly get lost in a good book (or whatever it is you do to chill out and decompress in a healthy way).
But have you considered focusing on your development as this second movement cycle starts up?
“Nobody cares more about your development than you do.” Someone shared this idea with me when I was a young New Staff gal. In my early twenties I would say this with anger, passion and even a touch of passive-aggressiveness, as though I had an axe to grind. But now in my thirties I can say it without malice or prejudice, and with a bit of ownership, too.
I know you’re tired, and you have to push through until Thanksgiving, but this is a great time to be proactive and make some progress on your PDP, to read that leadership book, to have lunch with that business leader in your church, and to reconnect with your coach or mentor. This is a great time to think about where you want to be in your personal and leadership development by this time next year.
Consider assessing your strengths and weaknesses using the Leadership Framework and the Growth Model then developing a plan for more “stretch” opportunities. Consider filling out a 360 Review on yourself, or even triggering an official one. And we all know that “the perfect time” to focus on your leadership development seldom occurs, so why not make the most of this time?
