God knows you. He knows your struggles and your talents, and He created you for a purpose. If you feel stuck or don’t understand why you are here, then a great place to go is to God’s Word.
God gave us the Bible so we can know Him better and discover our true purpose in life. Why not make a commitment this year to ask the Lord to reveal your calling?
Pray and read the verses below and journal anything that comes to mind as you read.
Know and Believe:
- Psalms 119:105
- “Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (Psalm 119:105, NIV).
- Jeremiah 9:24
- “‘ ... boast about this: that they have the understanding to know Me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,’
declares the Lord” (Jeremiah 9:24, NIV).
- Jeremiah 31:33-34
- “ ... I will put My law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be My people. No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest ... ”(Jeremiah 31:33-34, NIV).
- John 17:3
- “Now this is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent … ” (John 17:3, NIV).

Give Thanks:
- Psalm 9:1
- “I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds” (Psalm 9:1, NIV).

- 2 Corinthians 4:15

- Colossians 4:2-6

- 1 Timothy 4:4-5
- “For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer” (1 Timothy 4:4-5, NIV).
- Colossians 3:15-17
- “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” (Colossians 3:15-17, NIV).
We can overcomplicate the process, trying to seek out a direct message from God.
Sometimes God speaks directly to people as He did in 1 Samuel 3:1-10 when He called to Samuel. But, a lot of the times, we have to learn to listen and seek answers from the Lord by spending time with Him. Only then will we recognize Him when He does call to us.
Don’t give up. Be patient. Keep praying, spending time with God and reading your Bible. Thank Him for all He has done and continues to do. He knew you before you were even born (see Isaiah 44:24, Jeremiah 1:5 and Galatians 1:15), and He will give you wisdom. All you have to do is ask (James 1:5).
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11, New International Version).
