We have grouped the specific gifts into categories to highlight the kinds of tasks God gives them for, not to restrict them to certain settings. God may use His gifts more broadly than we describe here.
The spiritual gift of discernment is the ability to quickly perceive with assurance whether such things as people, events or beliefs are in reality divine, human or satanic. People with this gift can discern when something is not of God, and their perceptions will be in line with the Bible. (1 Corinthians 12:10).
The Holy Spirit gives the spiritual gift of knowledge to some believers to communicate biblical knowledge and understanding to others. The person with this gift is usually well-versed in the Scriptures and can retain the truth and communicate it at the appropriate times. It has been associated with the ability to teach the faith but also with forms of revelation similar to prophecy. (1 Corinthians 12:8)
The gift of wisdom is a special degree of insight about people and situations and an understanding of what to do about it. It is the ability to not only see but also to apply the principles of God’s Word to the practical matters of life by the “Spirit of wisdom.” (Ephesians 1:17; 1 Corinthians 12:8)
