Press 1 for More Options: How to Not Share the Gospel Like a Robot

“Wow, nice presentation.”

I heard this from a non-believer after sharing the Four Spiritual Laws with him. I first felt disappointment, then embarrassment that I had shared the Gospel with my head and not my heart.

A Cru staff friend reminds me over and over that when Bill Bright developed the Four Spiritual Laws, he captured a Gospel presentation that he was ALREADY sharing and was deeply personal. The Four Laws was a passionate plea, not an intellectual dissertation.

IF YOU ARE NEW TO SHARING YOUR FAITH OR LEADING OTHERS IN EVANGELISM HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND:

1. Practice sharing your faith with other Christians first. Ask them where you are most comfortable and personable. Ask them how you can develop and round out your presentation.

2. Have a 30 second, 1 minute, and 2 minute testimony ready at all times. You never know when the person you are talking with might abruptly end the conversation. Make sure to share part of your testimony in every Gospel conversation.

3. Whatever tool you are using to communicate the Gospel (Four Laws, Knowing God Personally Booklet, etc), make sure you take the time to identify where your heart connects with that tool. Can you really expect someone to be excited about something that you are not?

Remember that tools are the MEANS by which a task is accomplished, not the end. All the skill in the world will not make up for an impersonal and intellectual Gospel presentation.
