My Story: How My Life Changed

My Faith and Trust Journey

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5–6) Such a wonderful scripture, there’s so much I see now that I couldn’t before: that is the power, truth, and peace of trusting with all my heart. As a young Christian, my faith and trust in God have always been things I put into practice, and the one thing I lacked was the true ability to give it all to God, doing so with my entire heart. This meant being afraid, or sitting and attempting to solve situations when I had already asked God for guidance. And the truth is, sometimes it's easier said than done.

But the true calling and testament to my faith and trust in him began when I left my country to pursue further education in the beautiful island of Barbados. Not only was I on my own for the first time, but I had to adjust to changes in relationships, environment, and my new academic journey. In this time, truly trusting him led to my growth in faith, spiritual strength and I had spiritual mentors who encouraged me along the way. To this day, verses like Isiah 12:2 remind us to trust in God and be not afraid, for God is our salvation. That the Lord is my strength and he is my song. I would encourage you to sing his song, love him, have faith, and trust in him with your heart, give it entirely to him, for he is more than able.
