BREAK?

Break.

This week is a Thanksgiving holiday break for most of us. I find it interesting that we call the time away from school or our ministry a “break.”

I guess this usually means we’re taking a break from our normal schedule.

But what I think it really means is that if we don't take time to step aside from all the demands of daily life, WE WILL BREAK . I don’t know about you, but I’m desperate for a few days to just chill, watch a lot of football in between naps, eat great food, and laugh a lot with my family!

I’m reading a fantastic book called Replenish: Leading From a Healthy Soul by Lance Witt. It’s extremely convicting for those of us in ministry who are too often guilty of being so busy working for the Lord that we forget the Lord we’re working for. So as this book has been driving me to the Source of refreshment – I figured I’d throw out some nuggets and hopefully prod you to do the same.

“I have found it easy to function out of my experience and gifting and skill rather than dependence upon God.” p. 37

“A healthy soul keeps my life glued together (integrated). Neglect of the soul and preoccupation with doing, achieving, and succeeding will inevitably lead to image management.” p.38

“I have a growing conviction that it’s dangerous to equip young leaders with vision, leadership, strategy, and church growth principles without equipping them to have healthy souls.” p.41

“According to Jesus, it is the holiness of my private life that gives spiritual power and validation to my public ministry.” p.54

“Busyness will not only distract, it will infect. Your busyness will damage your soul…” p.62

Good stuff, huh? I've gained a new appreciation for Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Take a break and meditate on that!
