Connect With 1000 Students and Faculty

How well are you connecting with students and faculty this Fall? Now is the time to connect with as many Freshman (and others) as possible. But you may be missing a free and easy opportunity to do so.

Imagine meeting 1000 students, taking them all out for coffee, and then taking them on a week long mission trip. That probably sounds exciting and overwhelming. Maybe it’s not as hard as it sounds.

Shake hands and say hello : This is an analogy for what happens when you send students an email about your ministry. Make a first impression with a preview of what a friendship might look like. I recommend  using Mail Chimp  to make a great first impression. You can easily send an email to 1000 students.

Take them out for coffee : When you grab coffee in the student union your new friend can learn more ab out you, your ministry and who else you roll with. This is what happens when a student visits your Facebook Fan Page. Does your ministry location have a Facebook Fan page? If not, read  why every campus ministry needs a Facebook Fan Page . Facebook is the Student Union of your campus. Use Mail Chimp to invite students to check out your Fan Page. Here’s an example:  http://www.facebook.com/asucru

If you post something to your ministry Fan Page and then have all your student leaders “like” it, it will show up in the news feed of 1000 students.

What about Facebook groups? Increasingly Facebook Groups are for securing content for a closed group of people, not for broadcasting to many people. This is why Fan Pages are better for sharing your ministry while groups are better suited for a Bible study group for instance:  Online Bible Study via Facebook Groups .

Take students on your Mission : What are you about? What are you for? What are you passionate about? Your Ministry Web site is where you go deep; sharing the details of your mission, vision, and most importantly your story. I recommend a web site that uses a blog format but also includes more static information about your ministry. Here’s an example:  http://www.asucru.org/

Over the next year, 1000 students and faculty (and parents and others) could find out in detail what you are about.

I am working on this model for our regional web page, winter conference page and personal ministry page. Let me know how it goes for you.
