Unto: Women's Health Summer Mission

Women living in developing countries are 25 times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause. Approximately 800 women die daily due to complications of pregnancy and childbirth. Guatemala has one of the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in all of Latin America and the Carribean. Those living in rural regions are twice as likely to die from preventable pregnancy related deaths.

You can help teach life saving information to women in rural Guatemala by joining the Unto Women’s Health Summer Mission trip. In addition to health training, you will participate in the training and distribution of reusable feminine hygiene supplies that provide women in developing countries with freedom to go about their daily lives without fear of stigma or embarrassment.

When you participate in this trip, you will see firsthand the impact practical health knowledge and essential hygiene supplies can have on a community.

As part of the trip experience you also will learn how you can integrate ministry into your nursing future, whether in a clinical setting or in a mission hospital. You also will spend time with local Cru® staff members to share the hope of Jesus with people in Guatemala.

The Unto Women’s Health Summer Mission trip is open to female nursing students who have completed at least two semesters with clinical rotation of nursing school. Limited spots are available. We seek ten participants who demonstrate interest in maternal and child health, women’s rights, and women’s ministry. Knowledge of Spanish language is not required, but would be a great asset.

Trip dates are June 3 – June 30. The first week will consist of special training in Orlando, Florida. The remaining time will be spent in Guatemala, hosting women’s health trainings and serving with local Cru staff members.

To apply, please complete and submit the summer missions application. Two references are required: one from a Cru staff member and one from a nursing professor. Please have your application in by April 1.

Those accepted for the trip will receive an extensive packet that contains all information needed to prepare for the trip.

The listed trip cost is an estimate and does not include airfare, which will be an additional cost. Final trip costs will be determined by March 2020.

Use your nursing skills and ministry passion to relieve suffering, restore dignity, and reveal hope to women!
