How to Outlast and Overcome Porn

Feeling tossed around by your failures in your fight against porn? Feeling beaten and battered, on the verge of giving up hope of ever overcoming porn? Discouraged that you're always taking 3 steps forward and 2 steps back?

How to Outlast and Overcome Porn

Nothing destroys our personhood as a man or woman, as much as porn does. It is like a disease that slowly tears away every bit of our worth as a person with every indulgence in it. We may be a public success, as a student or professional, but a private failure in this fight against porn.

Dave, a successful executive and a ministry leader in church, who is now in his 40s, has been struggling with porn since his early 20s. Being a believer and a church leader, the guilt and condemnation of being a hypocrite eats into him every time he gives in to temptation. With every re-commitment to God to do better whenever he fails, the hope of overcoming porn wanes more and more with every passing year.

  • Is there a way to fight this battle with hope and strength?
  • How does God look at us when we keep on failing?
  • What are we being robbed of by our Enemy in this struggle?

There is a different way to fight this battle, not from a position of defeat, but from a position of victory. How you position yourself in this fight determines how you will outlast and overcome this problem.

Speaker

Having struggled with porn before in his teens, and even as a Cru staff, Josh Lam understands the struggles and shame that men go through. He finds it troubling that porn robs people of their identity and hinders them from living out their God-given destinies. He now journeys with men to help them re-discover their identity and start living out their victory over porn, one step at a time.

Participants from Josh’s Recovery Group

“Josh helps participants to deftly reframe the fight against pornography. The cunning compulsion is often a symptom of a more insidious attack on a more important aspect. Our identity.” - Ben

“Josh is a great facilitator. He is able to integrate biblical principles with counseling techniques to provide support for group members. He is highly motivated, non-judgmental and makes everyone feel comfortable. He is experienced, skillful and able to empathize with others. He has helped me to see things from a different perspective. He is highly recommended.” - Mic

"The sessions led by Josh have been instrumental in helping turn around my battle against the stronghold of lust / pornography in my life. Where there were frequent defeats, now there is hope of overcoming rooted in the assurance of my identity as His son, all because of what God has done (not anything that I have done)." - Rick

"Since 2019, Josh has been mentoring me through a battle with pornography addiction. There have been so many times in this journey when I truly felt like I could not (and never would) overcome this struggle. Yet Josh has been so patient, and been such a channel through whom Christ has shown His light and love. I'm really grateful for Josh's kind and understanding words, his wise and practical advice and his willingness to sit and listen. Josh is really someone I'm glad I can turn to in this fight!" - Tan
