What feelings does this orphaning bring up in you?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Scripture to Study<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>He reached down from on high and took hold of me;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;he drew me out of deep waters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He rescued me from my powerful enemy,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;from my foes, who were too strong for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They confronted me in the day of my disaster,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;but the Lord was my support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He brought me out into a spacious place;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;he rescued me because he delighted in me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Psalm 18:16-19)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Wise Words to Consider<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe idea of more room, more time, more openness, just a kind of bigger field or bigger tent, a longer table, like the idea that there&#8217;s room and with God&#8217;s grace, there&#8217;s time\u2026 I think that underneath that kind of canopy, there&#8217;s so much room for our doubting, our pain, our need for healing, our loss and grief.\u201d&nbsp; &#8211; Sara Billups<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Prayer to Lead You<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus, You have brought us out into a spacious place, a place where we can come authentically before You with our doubts, fears, struggles, and pains. Your embrace is bigger than our brokenness. Your love is deeper than our flaws. Your grace is higher than our doubts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have not left us as orphans, and yet we may still feel like orphans as we seek to follow You. Breathe Your Holy Spirit upon us so that we might feel Your presence and hear Your whisper of acceptance and delight.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make us into people who create spacious places for the sake of others. May others find rest and comfort in our presence. May we make ourselves available for others.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We sit at Your feet and listen with open hands, dear Jesus. Amen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Practice to Begin<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sara shared some contemplative practices that grounded her during a season of spiritual drought including:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Taking a posture of listening when praying.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reading the Psalms.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paying attention to liturgy.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the next few weeks, begin incorporating these practices in your walk with God. What do you notice about the way you approach God when you use these practices? What is something new you\u2019ve begun to see about God, yourself, and the world around you as you slow down, pay attention, and listen?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Questions to Answer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sara painted a picture of creating a spacious place where we can freely bring our doubts, pains, and struggles and carry each other as the church. The church, in its health, is meant to reflect the spacious place that God creates in his love and grace toward all people.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What would it look like for you to begin creating this spacious place in your community? Do people closest to you feel like they can bring their true selves &#8211; including their doubts &#8211; to you?
