Are there ways in which you\u2019ve been ashamed of your cultural background or tried to avoid it altogether?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take some time to think about the reasons why it\u2019s been difficult for you to acknowledge and praise God for your cultural background. What if your ethnic and racial background are an integral part of your redemption story?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Scripture to Study<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018Count off seven sabbath years\u2014seven times seven years\u2014so that the seven sabbath years amount to a period of forty-nine years.<strong> <\/strong>Then have the trumpet sounded everywhere on the tenth day of the seventh month; on the Day of Atonement sound the trumpet throughout your land.<strong> <\/strong>Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you; each of you is to return to your family property and to your own clan. The fiftieth year shall be a jubilee for you; do not sow and do not reap what grows of itself or harvest the untended vines. For it is a jubilee and is to be holy for you; eat only what is taken directly from the fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018In this Year of Jubilee everyone is to return to their own property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Leviticus 25:8-13)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Wise Words to Consider<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c&#8230; for us who are on this side of the cross, we don&#8217;t have a year of Jubilee, right? You don&#8217;t have to count off every 50 years. But we do have the Jubilee Bringer. We have Jesus. And because of that, we aren&#8217;t constrained anymore to this 50 year cycle. We, with the power of the Holy Spirit, every day, in a sense, is a year of Jubilee. We are able to, as the church through the Spirit, do things and influence things in a way that turns things completely upside down.\u201d&nbsp; &#8211; Timothy Isaiah Cho<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Prayer to Lead You<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Jubilee Bringer,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Your life, death, and resurrection, You ushered in the year of the Lord\u2019s favor. In You, debts are canceled, bonds are broken, liberation is declared, restoration is accomplished, and the poor are made rich. We are citizens of Your upside-down kingdom.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have poured out Your Holy Spirit so that we might live as Your hands and feet in this world that desperately needs Your jubilee. Give us the courage, the care, and the curiosity to know the places where You have placed us so that we might be instruments of Your freeing grace.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we wait for You to bring in jubilee to completion when You return with glory, make us diligent here and now to spread tangible signs of your jubilee far and wide and deep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We rejoice in Your jubilee. Amen.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Practice to Begin<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Timothy gave four next steps to participate in God\u2019s redemption of our communities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Get to know the community where you\u2019re located.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find a community where you can be on mission with together.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learn about racial justice from a follower of Jesus.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pray.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the next few weeks, go through these four steps and take notes about what you learn about your community and the potential places where God can do amazing things. What do you know about the history of the place where you live? What are the stories of heartache and the stories of victory in your community? Ask Jesus to intertwine your heart and affections with the place where you live and see where He leads you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Questions to Answer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Timothy talked about his struggles with seeing security, safety, and personal control as idols as he navigated where he and his family chose to live. It is easier to trust in your own feelings of being in control of your neighborhood than to trust that Jesus has you safely in His hands.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where do you see the idols of security, safety, and personal control in your life? In what areas of your life &#8211; the place where you choose to live, your career, your friendships, your leisure &#8211; do you sense God calling you into a deeper sense of trust?
