Cru in Australia is launching a new initiative that's reaching out to the film industry in Australia. We're calling it "Wonder Gate." We're aiming to make films that express Christ in a way that people who have little or no experience with Christianity can engage with and really enjoy. We're also working hard to collaborate with the local film industry, making films by enlisting local talent and crew. This way, we are able to share Christ through relationships forged through the filmmaking process.
Thanks to support from Global Short Film Network we've been able to pioneer this film mission with a great start. Our first short film, entitled "Lost in the Dark" has been nominated for 8 awards, including Best Film, at this year's 168 Film Festival in Los Angeles. Out of 158 entries from around the globe, we are now one of seven competing for the top prize, a million dollar development deal with Echolight Pictures to make a feature film. The festival takes place on August 8 – 10. Our film "Lost in the Dark" screens on Saturday the 10th during the 1:15 – 2:50pm block. If anyone is in LA we'd encourage you to buy tickets and come support the film. The winners will be announced Saturday night at the awards gala.
Throughout the making of this film, we had many opportunities for spiritual conversations and some of the crew have even expressed an interest in learning more about Christianity. We're starting a small group Bible study out of this interest, and we can't wait to get it started. We are so excited to begin this journey and really wanted to share the news with our international Cru family.
