More Than a Summer Job

Summer in the City students and staffA college student from University of Minnesota's Duluth campus, Jon, spent last summer in Milwaukee with teammates and staff, learning about life and service in the inner city.

A job at McDonald's was going to be more than just a paycheck to Jon, it was an ongoing opportunity to share his faith during Summer in the City®. For a few weeks, getting in-depth conversations going with his coworkers was a struggle, but Jon faithfully prayed for God to use him there.

Then, on what seemed like an "average day," he was a few hours into his shift when the manager told him to take a break. Minutes later his coworker Cheyenne walked into the room to take a break as well. She sat down at the table with Jon. He was a little nervous when he realized an opportunity to talk with a coworker was staring him in the face. To Jon's relief, Cheyenne started talking. She asked him about his time in Milwaukee. Jon felt the Holy Spirit guiding his words as the conversation steered toward the gospel.

As their break time came to a close, Jon emphasized God's mercy and forgiveness to Cheyenne, and explained that she could accept Jesus' salvation for her life. She expressed that she wanted that and prayed with Jon to accept Christ as her Savior! Jon was blown away — God used him in a way he couldn't have imagined!

We look forward in anticipation to Summer in the City 2016! Pray with us for God to work through more students in inner-city communities, drawing the lost to Himself.
