Standing in the crowd of students worshiping a God “Amy” had never believed in, tears began to fall from her eyes, as she realized how much she needed something or someone, who could take the weight of her problems from her shoulders.

Lindsey first met “Amy” when she climbed into her car.

It was the first Cru meeting of the year for Montana State University, and they were inviting as many students from the dorms as possible. They divided up into cars, and Amy rode with Lindsey.

On the way to Cru, Lindsey asked her about her spiritual background.

Amy had none.

Growing up in a small town, Amy had never heard anything of what Christians believed – not even that they went to church on Sunday. Her curiosity kept her coming to Cru meetings and Bible studies for the next six weeks.

“I want to hear and understand something I’ve never heard about before,” she told Lindsey. “I want to know who christians are and what that means.”

Lindsey read through the “Would You like to Know God Personally?” booklet with her, but she was unmoved.

“What is holding you back from believing in God?” Lindsey asked.

“I don’t really have any reason to believe in him,” she said. “I’ve never experienced that emotional feeling, or whatever it is.”

But in spite of her reluctance to believe in anything beyond her present reality, Amy continued to come, and at prayer times, she was Lindsey’s top request. Soon, students and staff all across the MSU Cru movement were praying that God would reach her.

Then Amy came to fall retreat.

There, during a singing time near the end of the weekend, something began to change in Amy’s heart.

She began to think about all the life issues she was facing, and it all felt too much to carry on her own.

Tears formed in her eyes.

“I need to believe in something bigger than me,” she told Lindsey after the session. She’d placed that hope and trust in Jesus.

“Now I’m the circle on the right!” She said, referring to the circles diagram in the back of the “KGP” booklet.

After praying for six weeks, Lindsey now has the joy of meeting with Amy and watching her soak up God’s word.

“It’s just powerful for me to see her come from a place of a blank slate to fully trusting Christ,” Lindsey said. “The big takeaway for me was how powerful and big God is – how He wants us to ask for bold things like that. It’s kind of addicting – it makes you want to continue to see that and intercede for people and pray for them.”
