“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’” Romans 10:14-15 ESV
Our heart beats faster, the butterflies in our stomach start to swirl, and our mind imagines all manner of possible outcomes. Those are some common emotions as we think about sharing the good news of Jesus with others. We can feel a tension of nervousness as well as a heart to follow God and a longing for those who do not yet know Jesus to see the grace of our Savior.
Cru’s definition of successful witnessing is: “Taking the initiative to share the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit and leaving the results to God.”
This definition highlights our role and God’s role in sharing the gospel. It relieves the pressure we feel to change someone’s mind and reminds us that sharing our faith is an invitation to partner with God as He builds His kingdom. We are called to go and share the gospel in the power of the Spirit. God is the one who draws people from death to life.
One of the things that can help settle the butterflies in our stomach is growing our heart and skill in communicating the gospel to others. God has given us a good message to share and we want to do so in the most thoughtful and wise way possible.
We will show you some resources that will help you grow your heart for evangelism and equip yourself and others in communicating the good news of Jesus. Use these tools as a foundation and contextualize them to your audience as needed.
