My life was in shambles. I couldn't hold a job. Our marriage was horrible. Selfishness was one of my highest traits.
When we had our first child, we were basically staying together so that she would change our lives. Life changed, but not for the better.
Everything I was doing was "me-focused." I was failing miserably.
A co-worker of Laura's gave her a brochure for the Weekend to Remember®. We sat in the car before we headed in saying, "If this doesn't change our marriage, let's file for divorce."
During the conference, I heard about a God who loved me, created me and wanted to have a relationship with me. He had a plan for my life and would forgive me of my wrongdoing.
A visual was shown on the screen of me (sinful man) on one side of a valley, God on the other, and the sin that separated me from Him. The only way to have access to this forgiveness was to confess my sin and accept Jesus Christ as my Savior. I had heard the gospel message 100 times before, but this was the first time I understood it.
I will never forget that day as I realized I could not continue in my own strength. I needed Christ to be the Director of my life.
Prior to the conference, faith and God seemed to be two completely different things. Coming out of the conference, things were different. It really turned my world upside down.
It's not just a switch that flicks on and there's no more issues. I had to build trust with my wife and not lie anymore. But, that decision brought peace, forgiveness, and a new day to not only my own life, but our marriage as well.
I often think back to that conference and remember that the only thing I have done to make all this happen is say "yes" to God. That, to this day, still blows my mind.
