Popsicles in the Park
Thursday, June 26
This week the students in my Tuesday night dinner group had an "ah-ha moment."
As we were discussing how the summer was going, Brian, another staff member, asked the group what stopped them from talking to others about Jesus as a way of life.
The students discussed how easy it is to just be comfortable -- to hang out with their friends, to do things in their rooms and to forget that there are people all around them in this city who don't know about Jesus Christ and His love.
The Plan
As they started brainstorming, the group began realizing all the ways they could love people and engage with them as a natural part of life.
- They could knock on their neighbor's door in our student housing and invite him or her to lunch.
- They could strike up conversation with the person next to them on the bus.
- They could move their "hang out" times into the city and be intentional about meeting people wherever they go.
Then one of the students suggested that instead of spending our next Tuesday dinner in one of our apartments we should go into the city.
We're going to pack simple bagged dinners and then use the money we'd usually spend to give something away (maybe popsicles) to people at one of the parks or tourist spots.
It¹s so cool to see students getting it -- finding ways to live life and shift their focus to loving others in the name of Christ.
Is It Worth It?
