Athletes in Action announced that Jason Witten of the Dallas Cowboys will be the winner of this year’s Bart Starr Award.
The winner is voted on by NFL players and is named after NFL Hall of Famer, Bart Starr. The award honors the player who best exemplifies Starr’s commitment to family, teammates and the community.
The award will be given during the 26th Annual NFL-Sanctioned Super Bowl Breakfast, hosted by Athletes in Action, on Friday February 1th, 2013 in New Orleans, LA.
The signature event of Super Bowl week has taken place in the game's host city every year since 1988, drawing sellout crowds to hear from some of the game’s biggest names.
The event features several players and coaches sharing inspiring stories of faith and football. For many years, the breakfast could only be experienced in person. Now, people can bring the highlights of the breakfast to their own venue through a special webcast. It comes with pre-produced segments of action footage and personal stories, highlighting players and coaches who will speak during the morning.
The webcast is designed to help churches, study groups and even individual believers create opportunities for outreach to sports fans in their community.
Groups could host:
- Saturday morning breakfast outreach with a sports theme
- Super Bowl watching party at a church or community center with the webcast at halftime
- An alternative during a church Sunday school hour
- A sports-themed family banquet featuring local speakers and the webcast as the highlight
- Sports team gatherings for the Super Bowl with webcast at halftime.
The webcast costs $39.95 and includes a 30-minute streaming program featuring breakfast highlights, additional bonus video for use at an event and a promotional kit with NFL posters, invitations, fliers and comment cards for attendees. The download will be available Feb. 2 and 3 and requires high-speed Internet access and a computer with projector setup. Tech support will be available during the weekend as well.
Participants will also receive a set of ministry materials including a sports-themed follow-up Bible study for small groups.
Those who register before Friday, January 18th will be eligible to win an official 2012 Super Bowl football. It would be a nice door prize at your outreach.
